Bousquet Holstein holds as a core belief that the firm has a profound responsibility to contribute to the community and make it a better place for all to live. The commitments that the attorneys of Bousquet Holstein collectively and individually make to the Central New York community represent the firm’s philosophy in action. Pro bono service is a large part of that commitment.
The attorneys at Bousquet Holstein have the privilege of providing pro bono service to the clients of the Volunteer Lawyers Project of Onondaga County (OnVLP). The services provided cover the full array pro bono programs that provide counsel and comfort to those who cannot afford legal advice in matters that impact the essentials of life, whether in Family Court, eviction defense, homeless advocacy and prevention, trusts and estates matters, elder law, LGBTQ law, immigration matters, reentry, and grass-roots community economic development. The firm also provides a significant amount of pro bono legal services to not-for-profit organizations on matters including governance, not-for-profit corporation law matters, and tax-exempt status matters.
In addition to volunteering with OnVLP, attorneys at Bousquet Holstein serve as volunteers for the Hiscock Legal Aid Society (HLAS), Say Yes Legal Clinics, and Upstate Medical University Legal Clinic. The firm’s practice groups conduct elder law and legal education seminars, and provide legal counsel to community-focused nonprofit organizations.
Bousquet Holstein attorneys and staff also volunteer for and serve in leadership roles on boards of more than 150 organizations across Central New York, including service as the Board Chair of OnVLP and the past Board Chair of HLAS. The firm is proud of its past Pro Bono Champion award winners, and is pleased that attorney Michael W. Tyszko will be recognized by OnVLP as a 2018 Pro Bono Champion.
The New York State Bar Association celebrated Law Day on Tuesday, May 1 honoring attorneys and law firms from around the state. Bousquet Holstein PLLC was proud to receive one of this year’s President’s Pro Bono Service Awards presented by NYS Bar Association President Sharon Stern Gerstman at the Albany event. Larry Bousquet accepted the award on behalf of the firm.
President-elect Michael Miller, co-chair of the President’s Committee on Access to Justice, joined her at the ceremony. “It is fitting that, as part of our celebration, we honor the men and women who donate thousands of hours of legal services to better the lives of clients who are impoverished,” said Gerstman. “Not only have these lawyers exemplified the best of our profession, but their generosity has significantly helped their communities in addition to the individuals that they serve.”
Bousquet Holstein was proud to announce that Mike Tyszko was chosen as a Pro Bono Champion award winner by the Volunteer Lawyers Project of Onondaga County (VLP) for his efforts to provide equal access to justice to those in need. In addition, our firm was also selected to receive a 2018 Pro Bono Champion award. VLP presented the awards at a Volunteer Appreciation and Recognition Party on Thursday, April 19, 2018.
