Bousquet Holstein Estates Attorneys Speak at NYSBA CLE

Uncategorized

On Wednesday, November 19, 2014, Emilee Lawson Hatch, Julia J. Martin, and Cecelia R.S. Cannon were among the faculty speakers panel for a Continuing Legal Education Program sponsored by the New York State Bar Association – Trusts and Estates Law Section.

This recurring, popular, basic-level program explored the various proceedings involved in probate and estate administration. The panel of experienced practitioners, including the attorneys from Bousquet Holstein, took attendees step-by-step through the actual administration of an estate, from determining the nature and extent of a decedent’s assets and liabilities to discussion of tax issues that may affect the beneficiaries of the estate. Ethical considerations for attorneys handling estates were also covered, as well as accounting requirements for wrapping up a decedent’s estate.

The program speakers highlighted the particular procedure and process in Surrogate’s Court with which attorneys should be familiar in order to handle probate and administration matters effectively in that forum. This was a useful program for attorneys just beginning a trusts and estates practice and wanting to gain a solid overview of the probate and administration process, or experienced practitioners wanting to confirm that their skills and knowledge were up-to-date.
